Do you know which Orca this is? Kasatka has a spot like that on her tongue. I met her in 1980 when she was in the petting pool there. This doesn't look much older. What year was it taken?

This is Kalia. Kasatka's youngest, so she obviously inherited it! Does she look a lot like Kassy when she was young then?

yes, somewhat. The only way I was able to tell them apart at the time was by the pattern on the roof of the mouth. There used to be a souvenir postcard that SWC sold in the gift shops that was a photo of all four with their mouths open where you could really see the difference. I lost the one I had in a move a while back. Hope they still print it. I'd like to have it again.

That's a very unusual way of telling them apart, but a very good way I suppose, unless they didn't open their mouths. Aw, that's a shame, sounds like a really cool postcard. I hope you can find one again.

Being as young as they were at the time, there weren't many other unique identifying marks. People were trying to feed them all around me trying to attract them over so their mouths were open often. It was the easiest way to tell them apart at the time. I wonder how many of the "trainers" know this. :)
